There’s no better way to create a cozy, inviting feel in your home than with a beautiful fireplace. Whatever the size, it should reflect your personality, and match the style throughout the rest of the house. There are a wide variety of ways to complete a fireplace mantel update. Here are some ideas to ignite your creative juices!

This hearth is a true focal point, with oversized hand cut stones serving as a wall in the room. The narrow wooden mantel adds elegance and a classic sense of style. Recessed lighting illuminates the elements sitting atop the mantle. The natural stone complements the rich oak wood cabinet, built-in bookshelf and leather chairs.

For a more country chic look, consider a floating mantle made out of rugged, reclaimed wood or other unique material. In this home, designers selected natural brick with a whitewash treatment, using vertical brick placement just above the fireplace to create visual interest. Pillar candles arranged in a set of three (always group in odd numbers) lends warmth to the uncluttered look, while the birdcage clock on the right balances out the mantel.

If bold and modern is your style, why not buck traditional norms and go with a full concrete surround?  The clean lines of the cool concrete are balanced by a colorful statement artwork piece (leaned against the wall for a more laid-back vibe) and casual bookcase to the right. Dark tinted glass panes add a sense of mystery.

In this room, the homeowner chose to frame the fireplace with rich mocha wood. Taking an artful approach, an iridescent tile backsplash was added to create an interesting contrast while providing an unexpected pop of color. The oversized beige tile in front provides a neutral transition to the wood floor.

Bring a sense of old-world charm with a crisp white painted mantel with architectural detail. This style, inspired by ancient Greek architecture, presents a very classic look with a complementary marble hearth area on the floor. Hanging a mirror above the mantel is a timeless décor strategy to catch the eye and make the room feel larger.
