The Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) was held in Orlando in January and our Mosby designer, Jake Spurgeon, gives the inside scoop of 2018 Trends.

1) Rustic Finishes and Materials still Holding Strong

If French Provincial is your “exprimer des préférences” then this trend is still tres chic with design build. Barn wood accents walls with distressed cabinets in a grey wash stains are on trend as well as vintage, wrought iron lighting pieces.

2) Out with the old, In with the New…

With mixed materials, colors, finishes and metals, the heavy eclectic look and feel was visible at the show. Mixing cobalt blue with brushed gold was showcased at Tru booth. Bold colors and bright accent colors such as bright apron sinks and red faucets were on trend. Furthermore, colors that would normally not be seen together were meshed flawlessly. The rules of design are thrown out the window with this trend.

3) Art Deco: Black & Gold

Matte Black continues to be strong in design with hardware, lighting and cabinet.  Brushed gold and brass emerges as the key accent metal with black. This trend hearkens back to the Art Deco period of the Roaring Twenties with a contemporary feel of the 21st century style.

4)  A Nod to Mod: Modern and Sleek Options

With a more European influence in items, there is quite a large offering with these modern options. Clean lines and high gloss finishes are evident with cabinetry, specifically showcased from modern Italian designs. These modern options are paired with more rustic pieces, giving a beautiful balance of modernity and nature.

5) Alexa, turn on the oven at 350, please… Smart products

Technology is now a major design feature with smart products, that are connected to all devices. For instance, appliances can be controlled while not at home. Video and pictures of the inside of the fridge can be sent to you while you grocery shop. Plus, you can preheat oven while leaving office. Also, touch-less faucets or faucets are available that can measure or fill sink via voice. Your kitchen can be equipped with efficiency and technological luxury. If it doesn’t connect to Alexa, it better soon!
