Standard clearance for a microwave-hood combination appliance is 18″ above the range top which is 54″ above the the finish floor. The 30″ clearance above your stove top is for a cabinet or flammable & combustible surface.
The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) recommends the height of a microwave oven to be installed 24-48″ above the floor height for safety. A microwave-vent hood combination does not meet those guidelines. This can be a safety issue for the height of a microwave oven.
When reaching above your shoulders to pick something up or removing something from a microwave oven that is above you, your forearms are weaker and bring an increased chance of loosing your grip. If that something is hot, you have the potential for a hazardous spill and potential burn.
