Designers love to make design predictions for the coming year. But at the halfway point of 2017, we want to summarize the emerging trends we’ve seen so far this year in the homes of our St. Louis remodeling clients. Both inside and out, here are some projects trending as most desirable:

1. Upgrade the Garage Door

A garage door takes up a lot of space on the exterior of your home, so let’s not waste a design opportunity. Use that square footage to make an architectural statement that boosts the aesthetic appeal of your home. For the garage shown above, we customized the wood overhead door with a woodwork design that echoes the Frank Lloyd Wright lines of their home.

2. Embrace Green

Pantone declared Greenery the color of 2017, and St. Louis homeowners have heartily embraced every shade of green. As illustrated with this St. Peters, MO kitchen remodel, a lighthearted, vibrant green brightens this room even on a gray, rainy day. Green is Mother Nature’s neutral color, so it coordinates with most any other color you desire.

3. Brighten the Bathroom

This bathroom remodel for a Wildwood, MO family took the green trend in a dramatic teal direction, and it’s gorgeous! A bathroom is a perfect place to play with bolder colors because it’s typically a smaller space used for short periods of time. Giving yourself a joyful jolt of color several times a day is good for the soul.

4. Pop the Exterior

St. Louis remodeling clients are adding colorful accents to the outside of their homes, as well. The front door is a traditional surface to introduce a strong outdoor color. But this family in Creve Coeur, MO opted to treat their shutters like pieces of turquoise jewelry. Don’t be afraid to experiment with colors on shutters; they are relatively easy to repaint as the colorful spirit moves you.

5. Flush the Appliances

For a contemporary feel in the kitchen without going full-on modern, our homeowners are loving the look of appliances that are flush with the surrounding cabinets. It’s a simple detail that creates a tailored feel, and even brings new life to old appliances.

6. Go One-of-a-Kind

For several recent St. Louis bathroom remodels, our clients wanted a unique vanity. Some have had us turn an old chest of drawers or desk into a vanity. In the case of this South St. Louis County master bathroom above, our client re-purposed a corner cabinet saved from a kitchen remodel. Adding a shabby chic patina to the wood and an Onyx countertop makes for a never-duplicated vanity.

7. Sit a Spell

The backyard is typically the preferred area for outdoor living remodeling projects, but plenty of St. Louis homeowners are eyeing up their overlooked front porches as a new lounging opportunity. For this Clayton, MO ranch home, we refashioned a dark porch into a bright and inviting outdoor room.

So, these are the trends we’ve seen making our clients happy in 2017. To try out any of these uniquely St. Louis home remodeling projects – or collaborate on a new idea you have – give Mosby Building Arts a call at 314.909.1800, or contact us here to get started.
