Great idea with flipping the siding, but it has serious drawbacks.
Our experience at Mosby Building Arts is that approximately 40% of the siding will split when removed because of the many nails and the dryness of the old wood. The old siding splits very easily also because of the relatively clear straight wood grain.
When the siding is flipped end for end, the nail holes won’t line up with the wall studs so you will have twice as many nail holes. Any partial cut outs for windows and doors in one piece will no longer align with the opening when flipped.
This can be done with a huge increase of labor and adding an inordinate amount of hole filler to the many holes. This is why we don’t professionally do this.
If you do this, plan on a 50% waste factor destroyed on removal of the old siding requiring an exact material match with the new.
