These Ferguson, MO homeowners were dedicated to their 1867 beauty, so when considering a home upgrade, they knew they wanted to make changes to their existing house to fit their needs. After meeting with a Mosby Building Arts home consultant and considering all their options, they decided to do a multi-phase project.
The first phase of their project was to move the driveway to the other side of the home to make it less of an incline. Their original driveway was steep and led to a single car garage under the home. While this request was their primary focus, they expressed in their consultation a desire to change a few other things on the exterior of the home to make it more accommodating to their needs.
Let’s tour the project starting at the new driveway and new two-car garage. Now there is not only a nice area for the homeowners to park their cars and store things but it also provides privacy from their surrounding neighbors.
The clients now have a covered walkway from the home to the garage, which makes a nice transition between the home and garage spaces. This breezeway area also has room for a table and chairs to enjoy more outdoor living space for entertaining or relaxation.
This driveway is a noteworthy part of the project, it’s called a permeable paver driveway. The unique paver system helps cut down on standing water and helps with water runoff, which was something the homeowners expressed concern over in their conversations with the Mosby team. There is also a drain right before the garage doors that diverts water to the backyard.
The other interesting thing about this home is it started out as the first school in Ferguson, MO. One of the requests from the clients to licensed architect Brian Yount was to seamlessly blend the original craftsman style of this bungalow home with the new breezeway and garage. It is a beautiful blend!
